Smart process applications are those that embed analytics deep in the user experience and as a core capability – just like successful consumer applications – such that the lines are blurred between transactional capabilities and analytics capabilities.

Smart process applications provide embedded awareness data relevant to the business activity as well as embedded analytical tools designed for the task at hand. Companies that employ these types of applications achieve faster revenue growth.

According to Forrester’s research, “Smart process applications are growing at double-digit rates (18%) that are significantly faster than the overall software market (11%).” Forrester estimates double-digit growth for smart process applications, from $20 billion in 2012 to $34 billion in 2015.
