Heidi Lipsanen is a Master of Arts candidate at the Columbia Journalism School. Her focus is on international politics and political economy.
For the past ten years she has been working as a video journalist and documentary filmmaker covering a variety of social and political topics mostly for the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE. She has reported from a dozen of countries including Brazil, Mexico, Columbia, Guatemala, India, Egypt, Turkey and Tanzania. She founded her own production company Moscas Productions Oy in 2004 which has produced videos for private companies and organizations besides journalistic work. She also occasionally writes to magazines as a freelancer.
Heidi worked as foreign correspondent for the Finnish Broadcasting Company in Brazil from May to August 2014. She has also produced two documentaries in Brazil, “World Cup Gamble” (2014) and “Bailarinas”(2003). As part of her degree she is currently working on land conflicts in Western Brazil.
She completed her BA in Social Anthropology and Study of Religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, BSc in Biology at the University of Turku (Finland) with a semester abroad in Florianopolis (SC) Brazil and MA in Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester. She speaks ten languages, including fluent Portuguese.
